Google v iphone12/30/2023 ![]() That may be a slight stretch based on what we're seeing. Google claims that the Tensor is competitive with Android rivals such as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 for raw performance. Google Pixel 6 vs iPhone 13: specs and performance It will also automatically change the focus depending on the gaze of the subject. 'Cinematic mode' enables you to change the focus in a scene, even after the footage has been shot. Live HDR+ promises to enhance colors and tones, while Speech Enhancement can isolate voices amongst lots of background noise.Īpple hasn't rested on its laurels when it comes to video. Both phones can record 4K video at 60fps, but Google has brought its AI smarts over from stills to moving footage, courtesy of the Tensor chip. This year Google is gunning for Apple's smartphone video crown. The Pixel 6's new Motion mode is a bit of a mixed bag, with Action Pan and Long Exposure capturing still subjects with motion around it and blurring light trails, respectively.Īpple gives you Photographic Styles, which lets you change the fundamental tone of a shot without resorting to gaudy, cheap filters. Their software does even more of the heavy lifting than their hardware, in fact. Google and Apple are arguably the two leaders when it comes to image processing tricks. The iPhone 13's sensor shift stabilization system may just give it the edge when it comes to super steady night time shots, but we'll know more on that once we've spent some more time with the Pixel 6. You'll have to go with their Pro brothers if you want a dedicated telephoto lens, meanwhile. In the Pixel 6's case that's accompanied by an f/2.2 aperture, while the iPhone 13 goes with an f/2.4 aperture. ![]() The iPhone 13 packs a 12MP wide sensor that can generate large 1.7µm pixels, accompanied by a wide open f/1.6 aperture.īoth phones pack 12MP ultra-wide sensors. But then, Apple has also taken a major step forward with its own camera offering. We observed that the Pixel 6 takes better pictures than last year's iPhone 12 Pro, with which the iPhone 13 shares a fair amount in common. This produces 1.2μm pixels, though it uses a pixel-binning technique to effectively capture larger pixels for its 12.5MP images. It's led by a huge 1/1.31-inch 50MP wide sensor with an f/1.85 aperture. Google has taken a big step forward with the Pixel 6's camera set-up after several years of treading water. Google Pixel 6 vs iPhone 13: camerasīoth of these phones pack much improved dual camera systems, but they're far from identical. The iPhone 13 hits 800 nits in typical conditions and 1200 nits when viewing HDR content, which is pretty strong. It remains to be seen how bright the Pixel 6 screen gets. Our reviewer observed that the Pixel 6 screen tended towards a more vibrant mix of colors than Apple's iPhones, with greater contrast. It's a shame Apple didn't advance this particular area of screen technology, especially given that the iPhone 13 Pro goes up to a silky 120Hz. ![]() Google's phone has a 90Hz refresh rate, which is 50% speedier than the 60Hz iPhone 13. Where the Pixel 6 beats its Apple rival is when it comes to fluidity. We tested it alongside the Pixel 6 Pro, with its even sharper QHD resolution, and could only really discern a difference when we got close to the screen. Not that you'll particularly notice the relative pixel shortfall of the Pixel 6. That makes it larger but less sharp than the iPhone 13's 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen with its 2532 x 1170 resolution. ![]() The Google Pixel 6 display is a 6.4-inch OLED with a 2400 x 1080 (FHD+) resolution. We noted the impressive balance of the Pixel 6's speakers in our review, but both phones acquit themselves well. You get a strong stereo sound from both phones, too. ![]() Around front the iPhone 13 gets a nano-crystalline Ceramic Shield, while the Pixel 6 has an off-the-shelf Gorilla Glass Victus display cover. The payoff for this is that the iPhone 13 gets Face ID, while the Pixel 6 uses a more traditional in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.īoth phones have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. Just about the only consequential change is a display notch that's 20% smaller, but of course the Pixel 6 has a central hole punch notch that's smaller still. More generally, the iPhone 13 design is attractive, but doesn't move things forward much from last year's iPhone 12. The iPhone 13's larger camera module, positioned off to the side, makes it feel slightly unsteady when sat on a table. Still, at least its symmetrical shape means that the Pixel 6 sits straight on a table. ![]()

Best buy racing sim cockpit12/30/2023 ![]() ![]() I spent most of my time with the TMX Racing Wheel playing Forza Horizon 3 on Xbox One and Forza Motorsport 6 on PC. This doesn’t sound like much but it makes a huge difference when it comes to feeling and response while playing your racing game of choice. You can save a few bucks by buying the non pro versions since they include a lower end 2-pedal set but I found the 3-pedals had a much sturdier feel, as it features metal construction on the pedals and has progressive resistance with the brake pedal. Both of these setups are a great way to get yourself started in the racing wheel world, especially considering they include the Thrustmaster T3PA 3-pedal set in the box. Luckily Thrustmaster can not only help you create that ultimate experience but also can provide a much less costly way of experiencing that same simulator setup while taking up less space and money.Įnter the Thrustmaster TMX Pro Racing Wheel for Xbox One/PC and the Thrustmaster T150 Pro Racing Wheel for PS4/PS3. Now there is something to be said about getting a whole simulator setup with a steering wheel, 3 screens, cockpit style chair and more, but not everyone has the room or cash to spare. Be it the ultra realistic take on the genre like Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo, or a more arcade oriented experience, like Forza Horizon and Need For Speed, all these games can be vastly improved by using a steering wheel to play. Some of the biggest games these days in the console world are racing simulators. They even have third party licensing from brands like Ferrari and the U.S. ![]() Currently they make joysticks, game controllers, headsets and steering wheels for PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles. They are widely recognized for their HOTAS flight sticks, which are modeled after actual aircraft controls. Originally founded 1990, Thrustmaster really made headlines with gamers throughout that decade by releasing flight controllers for simulations on IBM compatible computers. ![]() Thrustmaster is no newcomer to the gaming world. Be it with a steering wheel or flight stick Thrustmaster has been leading the pack for years now and it’s apparent, they really know their stuff. Thrustmaster, a well-established and well-respected brand that caters to the simulation crowd, already gives players amazing experiences when it comes to controlling video games. With all this added realism, control in video games has never been so important. Video games can take us to whole new worlds with increasing realism and now that VR has become a reality, the whole way we play games is going to change. ![]()

Standard drupal icon12/30/2023 ![]() Something that can manage our wonderful, varied, multi-licensed and different methods approach to icons. Often times, we've been more focused on putting the actual icons in Drupal, instead of looking at the bigger picture. It is no wonder this issue seems to go around in circles and can never really seem to come through to fruition. ![]() It's never really been about the icons themselves, has it? Rather, "How do we get them in the site?", "Do we put them in the theme or a module?" or "Do they need to be interchangeable?". Let's take a step back and look at the underlying issue though. As a themer, I have noticed that often times the lack of icon support in Drupal has perhaps limited the design or even affected the choices in how we build a site. With a SoC initiative and a couple more attempts to put icons into Drupal, they either didn't gain much traction or have just failed over time, miserably. In fact, there are issues and discussions that span all the way back to 2007 (if not farther). This problematic issue isn't anything new to the Drupal community. Ironically, one might think this would complicate matters more, but in reality font icons are typically easier to implement and are overall easier to maintain. Regardless of how one might perceive it, fonts icons have simply added to the noise of what "icons" are now considered to be and the markup that comes with it. So in retrospect, perhaps font icons aren't as "limited" as some may believe, but purposefully and strategically left this way. Simplistic and flat silhouette icons are "in" right now. If you still need full-colored icons though, sprites are still probably the best way to go. In theory, it is possible to apply perhaps another secondary color if your font icon provides ligature support ( IcoMoon). (I only mention this so I don't get a comment about it below.) They are mainly monochromatic in nature, given the limitations CSS text coloring. While font icons are great, they do have a few limitations. pretty much every CSS trick/method you can apply to text can be used for a font icon. Fonts are vector-based in nature so they can be scaled, colored, text-shadowed. While this concept really isn't new, it probably isn't as widely known and has really changed how some of us themers approach icons in general. Pretty standard stuff and all is happy in the world. Whether it be a single static image or one massive image used for CSS sprites, they're usually a GIF, JPEG or PNG file. This question has pretty much been answered for years. What file format/method are or should be used for icons? Icons are a visual representation of some intended object or action - a pictogram essentially (think of a stop sign). They're images right? Well, technically yes. ![]() Many times this involves adding an icon library into your theme and doing some pretty undesirable pre-processing or template overrides to insert them where you want. If you're reading this post, it probably is because you desire an easier way to insert a simple icon into your Drupal site. ![]()

Mylio app review12/30/2023 ![]() These enlargements of the thumbnail views of two folders show the difference between a folder for which Mylio can’t access the original images It’s not fair to blame Mylio for the computer industry’s lack of simplified networking standards, but don’t say we didn’t warn you. Depending on how you access your NAS drive, the settings on your router, any wireless protocols you use, and other networking wackiness that may arise, don’t be surprised if you run into trouble. With an NAS drive, you’ll have to contend with all of the pitfalls of networking. It’s a handy option for backup, though a large, mirrored, removable USB drive may be an easier one. If you want to, and you’re good with networked drives, you can use a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive with Mylio. If you back up to a removable hard drive, the Sync panel reminds you to attach that drive and update your backup. If not, you’ll need to turn on that device and start up Mylio so that everything will sync. If the bars below the versions of your images in the Sync panel are green, you know that they are up-to-date. It also makes backing up your images a snap-and reminds you to back up regularly. ![]() Note: External storage, such as USB hard drives, doesn’t count towards the device limit of your subscription-think of a device as something you use to view your images, such as a smartphone, tablet, or notebook computer. If you don’t shoot RAW yet, try starting at the Basic level and moving up when you hit the 50,000-image limit or want to add more than three devices. If you don’t use Lightroom and won’t need to sync Mylio on devices that are never on the same local network, then you probably don’t need an Advanced subscription. The Advanced level costs $250 per year, permits computers in multiple locations, has integration with Lightroom, and can handle 500,000 images. For $100 you get the Standard subscription that adds RAW file support, boosts the device limit to five, and allows 100,000 images. The Basic subscription costs $50 per year and lets you import up to 50,000 JPEGs and view them on up to three devices. There are three price levels for Mylio, though you can also tinker with the free trial that lets you import up to 1,000 JPEGs across three devices. The shield in the Sync panel shows yellow, indicating that Mylio can’t access the original version at the moment. A preview version of an image stored on a USB hard drive which was not attached to a computer. Once you have a vast number of images in Mylio, you’ll likely get to the point where you mostly look at albums curated from various folders, though you’ll always have access to all the images that didn’t make the cut, just in case you second-guess your selections. If you create an album, again your images won’t move, but you’ll be able to navigate through it, viewing images that actually reside in various folders. This doesn’t actually move your image file-it’s just a visual reminder that you’re working with the image, or group of images. But since you’re likely to want to make albums with images from various folders, it includes a feature called Lightbox: Drag an image down from the preview area and the Lightbox, a small horizontal strip, will open up to let you drop the image there. ![]() Mylio recognizes and preserves your file structure on each device unless you tell it to make changes. ![]() This way, when I ask you, “Where’s that great picture of Molly you showed me at my birthday party last year?” you can find it again, send me a copy, or make a print. The subscription software service Mylio, which stands for My Life is Organized, hopes to offer an easy way for you to keep track of all of your images, while letting you keep scaled-down versions with you wherever you are. Where are your digital images? Are they on your computer’s hard drive? Are they on USB drives that you sometimes connect to your computer but tuck away when guests come over? Are they on a bunch of thumb drives in your desk or camera bag? If you’re like most people, you’ll answer yes more than once-and then realize you also have photos on your cell phone, tablet, and uploaded to Facebook and other sites. Once the drive is attached again, all changes will be reflected across all devices. The shields are not green because the USB drive isn’t hooked up to a computer, but we can still work with pre. The same directors’ 2009 adaptation keeps some of the short’s principal cast, changes a few details in the story, and magnifies the violence. ![]() And after she invites a customer back to her place for dinner, we learn where she gets her meat from. In the 2007 Indonesian short Dara by Kimo and Timo (collectively The Mo Brothers), the title character owns a popular restaurant. Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto’s Macabre is a little less easy to come by, though its source material is readily available. Rather than just a guy on stilts, though, the big-screen Larry in Come Play is the work of the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Paramount later gave Chase the opportunity to direct and write a larger movie based on Larry, which includes a scene directly inspired by the original short. In Jacob Chase’s effective short Larry, the attendant in a paid parking lot gets the scare of his life when he spots something ghastly one night. And with Parker Finn‘s Smile (based on Laura Hasn’t Slept) continuing the tradition in theaters this weekend, now is a good time to check out other similar transformations. The Evil Dead, Saw, Mama, The Babadook and Lights Out are just some prime examples. There is a long history of horror shorts being made into full-length features. As for the last and most fortunate fate, a short might be turned into something bigger. Another common outcome for these quick flicks is their joining others in compilation movies (also known as “frankenthologies”). Most of the time, they stay short and sweet. There are typically three destinations for a short horror film. Overall, my aim was to create an invasive sound that, as stated above, resulted in haunting encounter in your own home, emphasizing that psychological feeling of horror and creating a sound that took you out of your comfort zone, whilst at the same time, keeping you in it. I aimed to manipulate the understanding of the piece by using contrast to challenge the interpretation of its meaning, whilst simultaneously enforcing an uncomfortable, yet known experience upon the viewer. When initially creating my sound, I used this concept to inform my experiments. the deep sound of a fog horn, builds the suspense and anxiety that runs throughout the film. The contrast between these sounds, for example, the familiar sound of a light switch vs. Within the film, Sandberg uses the sound the inform the imagery and vice versa, creating one atmosphere with the lights on and another with the lights out. the uncomfortable bringing those haunting encounters straight into your own home. the supernatural, and the comfortable vs. ![]() The sound played in the film is a great contrast between the everyday vs. From this, I began to investigate the ways in which horror films use sound to create an uncomfortable experience that psychologically effects the viewer that effect that forces them to sleep with the lights on.ĭuring my research, I discovered the short film ‘Lights Out’ by David F. The initial idea for my DPT project was to create a sound piece based on the distortion of an idea aiming to challenge the perception of a song, story or poem and manipulate its message. After much research into my concept, a constant subject arose and a key theme became apparent – the psychology of horror. ![]()

Mandalorian actor tweet12/29/2023 ![]() ![]() (The company’s first release, Run Hide Fight, arrived last year, though it acquired that film at a festival and did not develop the movie itself.)Ĭarano’s firing has started a larger conversation, driven mostly by political writers, about whether conservative voices are welcomed within the entertainment industry and if, perhaps, they are subject to a new blacklist.
